Giving stories

Carapace not only gives people a place (and a safe space) to tell their stories, it helps give them the stories. Some of Joyce’s advice to anyone who would want to start a show like Carapace:

have a theme

because people need a handle

even if you say

come and tell the story you've been dying to tell

people still need

something to hold onto

and a theme gives them that.

I think this is one of the things that originally attracted me to Carapace. I didn’t think I had any personal stories, or not many. The themes helped me think of stories and knowing I did have stories was empowering.
