Safety in liberal stories

In thinking about Carapace as a safe space for storytelling, I have theorized that storytellers are privileged with a higher expectation of safety/comfort and the listeners understand that they may hear stories that make them uncomfortable (although there are elements that mitigate the relatively lower degree of safety for the audience, like their ability to leave during a story). In talking about Manuel’s as a safe space, Terri said this:
I’m a lifelong
yellow dog Democrat,
and so it just
feels like that’s,
that’s a place where my ideas
and the ideas that I hear from other people
are not going to be jarring to me
or to anybody else.

Terri feels that her stories will be welcome at Manuel’s because of its political history. But also, she has some expectation that the stories she hears will also be for a liberal audience and in that way she is unlikely to hear anything that will make her very uncomfortable.
