Being Better

I was struck by Will saying that he keeps striving to be better at telling stories:
Having a regular audience.
And trying to be,
and trying to, like,
get better
with stories.
He isn’t the only one who feels this way. Others have talked about trying to improve their storytelling over time. And I feel this way, too. I observe, and I practice, and I try to get better.

I think this is interesting because, with no competition, and no judgement from the audience, there is nothing about Carapace that suggests storytellers should try to get better. You don’t have to be better to be successful at Carapace. People want to get better for themselves (or to perform in other venues).

But you can’t get better without trying, without practicing, without risking being a little messy sometimes. Carapace is a perfect venue for getting better. People can take the risk of not being their best yet, and by doing so, get better.
