Audience feedback
Shannon was talking about telling a “bad” story at Carapace versus a “good” story at Carapace and I asked how she knew whether she had told a good or bad story. Was it from audience feedback?
People are still very supportive
and that is one of the confusing things.
People will still tell you did a great job
even though you know you sucked,
which makes it hard to know for sure.
I think if you
are a connoisseur of storytelling,
then you have your own internal mechanisms
for evaluating
and you can't --
There are a few people here
that you can say alright
Give it to me straight.
Tell me
how could that story be wonderful?
They'll talk to you about it.
Not only can audience feedback during the performance be confusing (like misleading facial expressions) but also conversational feedback after the show can be confusing as well (too polite).
