Conversation between teller and audience
From René’s interview:
Oh,
well, I
regularly meet a
friend of mine
here, and
well, there’s actually several of us from
our church
that come here.
And it was funny one time we were sitting up front
when we were in the other room
regularly.
We were sitting up front,
and somebody jokingly called us the “Church Ladies”
which just cracked us up because
we’re all older women
and we do go to church,
so it was very funny
that we got called that.
What a beautiful interaction between the storyteller and audience. The storyteller made an assumption that they were church ladies, and this happened to be correct, and it delighted René’s group. The storyteller made this observation, her group laughed. They all enjoyed being there that night together, and perhaps felt a little more connected than if they hadn’t been called out.
I realize I’m making an assumption that the person who called them the Church Ladies was a storyteller and not another audience member. It is kind of an assumption, because I think I was there that night and actually remember this happening. And I think it was a storyteller. If not, there is still a kind of connection made in that a bit of conversation happened that may not have otherwise.
